It is common that food poisoning leads serious disease and even death. So what leads the food poisoning? According to a survey, Salmonella has become the main killer in food poisoning in USA. Thus Americans are familiar to this bacteria and around 40,000 salmonella infection cases are reported every year. Actually, the number of infected people may be more than twenty times of the number of reported patients. Because many patients with light disease are not diagnosed and more than 1,000 people are die of the acute infection.

Epidemic in most states in US is related to the infected meat, eggs and milk products. For example, eating raw tomatoes have lead to food poisoning. It is usual to eat raw fruits and vegetables. However, hundreds of people had diarrhea, fever and stomachache in 30 southern and middle western states for eating the raw tomatoes which are imported from Mexico. Dozens of people had to go to hospital for the serious symptoms and a few patients even died. American’s Centers for Disease Control(CDC) found the reason that patients who had eaten the tomatoes were found salmonella by Salmonella test. So it is the salmonella that leads to the serious epidemic.

An server salmonella outbreak happened in California in August in 2010. Ministry of health in California announced that there were salmonella outbreak in many areas in the state and more than 250 infected cases were reported from June to August. Initial inquiries revealed that most patients got infected by eating eggs. It seemed that these eggs were infected with salmonella. Meanwhile, Minnesota diagnosed that at least 7 case were related to it. It was reported from Associated Press that that patients in other states were increasing rapidly. The salmonella patients increased by 4 times than the usual number of patients. American’s Centers for Disease Control(CDC) cooperated with the State Health Department to do the investigation. Later, they decided to recall these eggs and the number of recalling eggs reached to 550 million.

The main reason why people get the disease is that people eat the under-cooked fruits, vegetables and meats which are infected with salmonella. Americans like eating raw foods, which pose a potential threaten to health. So to avoid the disease, it is suggested that pick up certificated food and eat the cooked food as far as possible.

Finally, if you have diarrhea, fever and stomach ache, don’t hesitate to go to hospital to do salmonella test. The Salmonella Ag is chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of Salmonella spp. in stool samples in order to detect salmonellosis in persons and in contaminated food samples in order to avoid consuming it and salmonellosis disease. It was performed an evaluation using SalmonellaAg (Intermedical). It was studied 40 stool samples and the results were confirmed by Singlepath? Salmonella. Salmonella Ag (Intermedical) showed >99% of sensitivity.
